Assistant Claims Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Claims Manager will manage the Claims function for the Trinidad branch of Massy United Insurance Limited. The Assistant Claims Manager manages the analysis, review and adjustment of property damage, motor, bodily injury and all claims requiring investigation, liability evaluation and negotiation to ensure that settlement is prompt, efficient, equitable and in accordance with all contract/legal conditions/ requirements, whilst ensuring appropriate reserve levels. The Assistant Claims Manager is responsible for the disposition of claims in accordance with prescribed authority, provides advice and counsel to Claims personnel and assists in the management and development of the claims department.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

internal and external customers.

Lead the development of appropriate strategies, processes and procedures for the Claims operation to support the delivery of business

targets for the Trinidad branch

Develop, implement and continuously drive proactive claims handling

practices that lead to exceeding customers’ expectations.

Manage all claims from inception to conclusion

Processes claims consistent with clients' and company policies, procedures and "best practices" and in accordance with any statutory,

regulatory and ethics requirements.

Plan and execute all time schedules necessary to promptly and effectively apply best claims practices to conclude all assigned cases in

accordance with company guidelines.

Ensure compliance with all internal and external audits.

Manage reserve process to ensure reserve adequacy. Approve special

reserves as necessary

Assist in the development of the claims budget, managing within established budgetary standards, driving loss adjustment expense

improvements in all areas.

Maintain current knowledge of: all insurance lines; court decisions which may impact the claims function; current guidelines in the claims function;

and policy changes and modifications.

Work closely with claims adjusters and outside counsel to ensure cost-effective and appropriate litigation management strategies are in place that will lead to the best overall outcome.


Analyse the claims portfolio for trends and decision making. Prepare monthly claim department reports

Responsible for the management and development of the claims team, including identifying training needs and conducting performance

reviews.

Maintain excellent interpersonal relationships with department staff. Provide leadership to resolve problems and provide improvements.

Provide leadership to improve working relationships between yourself and your team, among your team and between your team and other

departments.

Mentor and manage all assigned Team Members in an effort to drive

excellence and develop people for positions of greater responsibility.

Focus on helping team members improve their skills and knowledge

through day-to-day coaching and facilitating training.

Conduct regular on time performance appraisals of all team members

Motivate the team and act on opportunities for reward and recognition

for team members

Effectively manage the use of resources allocated.

Ensure that monthly reports are submitted in a timely manner by the

team supervised

Any other duties that may be assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years of Claims management experience in the General

Insurance Industry or 8 years in a senior claims position

Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Law and/or a professional insurance qualification.

KEY COMPETENCIES

Be proficient in Microsoft Office

Demonstrate proven superior knowledge of best claims practices used to resolve the most serious and complex injury and property commercial

claims

Demonstrate  proven  knowledge  of  insurance  contracts,  medical

terminology and legal aspects of court procedures affecting legal liability Possess excellent written and oral communication skills

Possess excellent interpersonal skills

Possess excellent listening and mediating skills

Be analytical and demonstrate problem solving ability

Be detailed oriented and demonstrate decision making ability
