Mechanical Technician

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for ensuring that work assignments are carried out efficiently and safely and that support is provided to less experienced Mechanical Technicians.

Job Scope:

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for ensuring that work assignments are carried out efficiently and safely and that support is provided to less experienced Mechanical Technicians. 


Key Duties:

  • Support the Operators in ensuring that all critical equipment for safety, e.g. emergency generators, fire pumps etc. are reliable on demand by using functional tests in accordance with NFPA/ISA standards
  • Report any failure, sub-standard conditions, or incidents affecting electrical equipment, production or property of the Client to the Team Leader or a more senior Technician
  • Execute the work packages assigned such that all planned and unplanned work is progressed to a satisfactory completion, in a safe and efficient manner. To this end the use of all available planning tools is vital.
  • Effective and timely maintenance of all relevant electrical equipment
  • Carry out emergency response duties as required
  • Provide valid, accurate and up to date information for the Computerized Maintenance Management System, through detailed documentation of Work Orders.
  • Identify all consumables and spares for the discipline, and monitor quantity levels and adequate storage conditions.
  • Provide OJT (On-the-Job Training) for less experienced technicians so they are fully supported in their assigned tasks and perform competency assessment assurance
  • Ensure a safe place of work by complying with Permit to Work (PTW) system and safe working procedure(s).
  • Effective and timely maintenance of all relevant mechanical equipment
  • Effective troubleshooting and resolution of problems affecting mechanical equipment, torque and lift devices
  • Reading and interpreting Technician Drawings and Layouts
  • Full compliance with Massy WG HSSE Policies and Procedures
  • Perform all other job-related functions as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Mechanical Technician’s Diploma (MET) or equivalent certification in a related area of study and/or four (4) to five (5) years Oil & Gas experience
  • Excellent level of troubleshooting and operations knowledge
  • Equipment related experience dealing with a variety of micro turbines, valves, reciprocate and centrifugal pumps, compressors, generators, platform cranes and winches for the Oil and Gas industry
  • Ability to manage the Spares and Maintenance manual
  • Proficient with CBM techniques utilized by the Company e.g. Vibration Analysis and Oil Sampling
  • Must be a good communicator, and self-motivated team player.
  • Familiar with Computer Applications including word processing and spreadsheet applications (MS Word & Excel), CMMS (Maximo).
