Job description:

Department Manager 

Summary:
To  effectively  and  efficiently  manage  the  various  assigned  departments  to  achieve  the
established sales and profit targets established for the department.
 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1.   Observe and enforce all store rules and company policies;
2.   To recommend and prepare suggested policy changes of the assigned department in order to efficiently and effectively manage;
3.   To recommend and prepare suggested procedure changes to established systems to efficiently manage each department;
4.   Schedule employees work in support of operational requirements;
5.   Ensure that employees are properly attired and groomed as per guidelines;
6.   Employees’ attitude and greetings to customers are in accordance with guidelines;
7.   Inform, train and motivate staff and implement disciplinary action where necessary:
·    Assist with disciplinary matters, letters and leave forms;
·    Sign off on time cards, and process cards in system;
·    Conduct employee Performance Appraisals and submit to Human Resource Department;
·    Conduct monthly meetings.
8.   Submit Monthly Reports on department operations;
9.   Control overhead costs according to budget;
10. Ensure that all department personnel are aware of Emergency Exits for customers;
11. To comply with all safety policies and procedures;
12. Provide overall assistance as necessary to ensure that the store meets its objectives;
13. Perform other duties as required in support of the stores’ objectives;


Front Store
14. Communications/Relationships between customers and employees must always be of a high
standard:
·    Greetings at Parcel Check area must be in accordance with guidelines;
·    Leaflets with specials to be given out;
·    Document customers’ complaints/suggestions so they can be addressed;
·    Investigate customers’ problems and find solutions;
·    Oversee product exchanges and returns.
15. Maintain the highest standards in housekeeping to ensure that the store is clean and safe at all times in conformance with company policy:
·    Ensure that Front area and Parcel Check are always clean;
·    Ensure the availability of bags, trolleys, baskets;
·    Ensure that trolleys and baskets are always clean;
·    Ensure that there is no cluster or trolleys and basket in the Front area.

16. Ensure accurate use and accounting of company assets:
·    Ensure regular pick-up of cashiers’ excess cash;
·    Conduct balancing of Lynx and Visa at every change of shift;
·    Conduct nightly balancing of Magna transactions.


Grocery
17. Ensure that promotional displays are effective to generate sales;
18. Control inventory levels and ensure product availability at all times;
19. Ensure that equipment, and store facility is maintained according to company policy and industry standards;
20. To administer the stores retail management system;
21. To audit input into the inventory database;
22. To implement approved price changes daily;
23. To perform regular backups in accordance with company policy;
24. To advise Head Office of all price/product discrepancies;
25. To ensure that inventory is kept at acceptable levels in accordance with company policy;
26. To approve all Purchase Orders for the Store;
27. To liaise with suppliers/merchandisers to address queries, credits, spoilage, etc.
28. Maintain the highest standards in housekeeping to ensure that the store is clean and safe at all times in conformance with company policy;


Perishables
29. Ensure product availability, effective presentation and competitive pricing at all times;
30. Ensure that promotional displays are effective to generate sales;
31. Control inventory levels, spoilage, damage and shrinkage;
32. Maintain the highest standards in housekeeping to ensure that the store is clean and safe at all times in conformance with company policy;

General Qualification Requirements

Education
· Diploma in Business Management, Retail Management or Hospitality Management.
· Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word PowerPoint and Excel.
 
Experience
Two (2) years’ experience.
