Project Controls Manager

The Projects Control Manager is responsible for the organization and provision of Project Controls including estimating, cost control, and planning.

Key Duties:

  • Understand the corporate and contract-specific project management/ control procedures and carry out all work in accordance with these
  • Custodian of the Project Controls Level 2 Management System Manual with associated responsibilities
  • Responsible for preparation of estimates, maintenance of estimating data, and running of Risk Analysis modelling
  • Responsible for budget preparation, commitment control and forecasting of all costs associated with individual projects within the Contract
  • Responsible for preparation of project programmes and associated reporting based on Contract Work Breakdown Structure
  • Conduct regular meetings with project engineers to cover estimate, schedule or cost issues
  • Attend commercial meetings where required
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets where required
  • Assist in the preparation of reforecasts to the budgets where required
  • Assist in Lichtenberg analysis of budgets & reforecasts where required
  • Presentation of budgets to management where required
  • Liaise with other areas of the project on a regular basis – Project Management, Engineering, DCC, IT and HSE etc.
  • Create / Design Ad hoc reporting as required
  • Mentoring of junior department members
  • Liaising with Project Controls function leads, and HR Recruitment, responsible for the identification / recruitment of resources and allocation of resources to appropriate Project Control function within the contracts
  • Management of department individuals to ensure harmony & continuity across the Project Control function within projects
  • Attend weekly internal management team meeting to assist in the steering of the contracts
  • Approval of certain financial commitments on behalf of the company
  • Perform all other job functions as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Quantity Surveying or Business Management
  • Formal training in Project Management and / or Project Controls
  • Membership of recognised project management association would be beneficial e.g. PMI, APM
  • At least ten (10) years relevant work experience, with at least five (5) years supervisory.
  • Experience in the oil & gas industry.
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A natural leader who can make quick and difficult decisions, often under pressure, and who can command respect
  • A team player who can resolve problems within his teams, to deliver the best performance from individuals, by ensuring everyone is given the work and position where they can give of their best
  • Considerable experience in a project controls role
  • Experience in project controls functions of Cost, Estimating, Planning and the management thereof
  • Exposure to / experience of the procurement process and an understanding of its relationship with the project controls functions
  • Skilled in the supervision of project control personnel
  • High degree of Computer Literacy
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong working knowledge of project management software including Primavera 6.0 and Microsoft Project
  • Strong understanding of engineering and construction projects
  • Strong understanding of the principles of project management
  • Strong understanding of Cost Management, Estimating and Change Control
  • Advanced knowledge of Project Planning and Scheduling
