JOB DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

Job Title:

Accountant I

Job Summary:                 The incumbent will provide support to the initiatives of the finance department in accordance with effective financial, managerial and cost accounting practices and international accounting standards.

 

Essential Duties and

1.

Supervise  and  monitor  the  NESC’s  investment  portfolio  and/or

 
   

Responsible for

   
 

Responsibilities:

     
 

2.

Responsible for the maintenance of NESC's Investment Portfolio.

 
     
   

3.

Record Investment Movements for the current month in the General

 
     

Ledger.

   
   

4.

Accrue for interest earned in the current month

   
   

5.

Update the Investment Portfolio with interest earned for the month and

 
     

with movements in Investments.

   
   

6.

Review and reconcile interest paid with interest accrued.

 
   

7.

Ensure that all fees are recorded in the General Ledger.

 
   

8.

Request attendance register from Campus Mangers at the beginning of

 
     

each semester.

   
   

9.

Review all Fees Journals prepared by the Accounts Clerk I to ensure the

 
     

accuracy of the data entry with regard to account codes.

 
   

10.

Review all Fees Reconciliations prepared by the Accounts Clerk I.

 
   

11.

Follow up with NESC Campus Managers with regard to unpaid fees.

 
   

12.

Ensure that all Bank transactions are posted on a timely basis.

 
   

13.

Ensure that all Bank Transactions have been entered in the current month.

 
   

14.

Prepare Bank transaction Journals as relates to Bank Transfer Letters.

 
   

15.

Prepare Monthly Bank Reconciliations

   
   

16.

Reconcile the Deferred Revenue Accounts

   
   

17.

Update and maintain the capital and recurrent contribution schedule.

 
   

18.

Maintain supporting back up of all contributions received by NESC.

 
   

19.

Prepare journals to post all operating and capital contributions and data

 
     

entry into the general ledger.

   
   

20.

Prepare Monthly Management Accounts.

   
   

21.

Prepare Notes to Management Accounts.

   
   

22.

Compile Monthly Expenditure Variance Analysis.

   
   

23.

Prepare year end accounts in audit format.

   
   

24.

Prepare Schedules in accordance with auditors' requirements.

 
   

25.

Follow-up on bank confirmations etc. and reconcile to NESC balances.

 
   

26.

Maintain General Ledger Accounts Codes.

   
   

27.

Maintain reports on the Dynamics General Ledger Accounting System.

 
   

28.

Demonstrate and encourage integrity and loyalty among staff.

 
   

29.

Perform all duties in compliance with HSSE & ISO standards as specified

 
     

by the HSSE & ISO departments.

   
               
 

30. Serve on internal and external committees and performs other such duties

 
   

or exercises as may be assigned by law or the VP, Finance.

 
 

31. Participate on Programme and Institutional Committees.

   
 

32. Related duties as required

           

Qualification and

Professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA or equivalent.

 

Experience:

                   
                     
 

Specialist (5 yrs.)

Strong knowledge about the NESC and programs offered

   
 

Maintenance of confidentiality of work related information and materials

 
 

Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and

 
   

peripherals, and ability to use office software applications (MicrosoftSuite)

       
 
     

Work Environment:

Work in indoor and outdoor environments

   
 

May visit students at work placements

   
 

May involve exposure to potentially hazardous materials and equipment
