Job Title:

Manager Teaching and Curriculum

Job Summary:

The incumbent will lead a multidisciplinary team of Subject Matter Experts and will be responsible for ensuring that the highest standard of teaching in all programmes at all levels is delivered across all NESC campuses. He/she will maintain a collaborative approach with SMEs to achieve instructor/lecturer development and lead the orientation of new instructors and lecturers. He/she will oversee the development, editing and quality of all curricula, ensuring the learning outcomes are clearly matched to the market needs for the specified curriculum. He/she will be responsible for the Programme Review Process. This includes the planning, development and production of curriculum materials, processes and required activities that are evaluated to ensure effectiveness in improving student outcomes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Schedule Peer Review sessions in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts for each instructor in each programme in each trimester using teams of Internal Verifiers and Senior Instructors

2.     Collate and Summarize the findings of Peer Review sessions for each instructors using the cloud based Office 365 platform

3.     Oversee the development of training plans for each instructor/lecturer

4.     Plan, coordinate and lead new instructor/lecturer orientation and retraining

5.     Develop, implement, maintain and evaluate a curriculum management policy and procedures in accordance with NESC Quality Management System requirements and best practice methodologies to support successful student outcomes.

6.     Working in collaboration with External and Internal Verifiers, review, recommend and revise NESC curriculum content, training materials, training modules, teaching aids, policies and procedures in keeping with best practice methodologies and requirements.

7.     Collaborate with External and Internal Verifiers to coordinate the review/assessment process of the current curriculum to ensure that the courses/modules/programmes are meeting the intended objectives and requirements.

8.     Review instructional material prepared by External and Internal Verifiers and instructors for distribution to students and develop outlines providing basic detail to direct instruction in accordance with adult learning principles

9.     Develop and maintain research database that may be utilised in the review and development of NESC’s curricula

10.   Actively pursue 60 hours of professional development annually to stay abreast of best practices in teaching, educational technology, curriculum development

11.   Work with External and Internal Verifiers to identify guest speakers and trainers to facilitate Instructor development activities to train all NESC Lecturers and Instructors on academic content and best practice in pedagogy, teaching and training

12.   Collaborate with External Verifiers to plan and execute training and coaching to Instructors, Lecturers, Workshop Assistants, concerning coaching and mentoring strategies in leading and monitoring class and workshop activities

13.   Address any training material issues and curriculum challenges that may arise

14.   Manage the access to shared curriculum documents on the cloud based Office 365 Platform.

15.   Ensure the effective creation and maintenance of curriculum records using the Office 365 cloud based platform for prompt retrieval as or when needed

16.   Co-ordinate and ensure accuracy and timeliness in the development and distribution of programme binders, syllabi, textbooks etc. and monitor/handle queries arising.

18.   Manage, create and maintain related curriculum documentation, programme binders, syllabi, text books etc. to ensure maximum support for teaching and learning

19.   Work with Campus Managers, External and Internal Verifiers and Instructors to ensure that students maximize online library platforms

20.   Perform all duties in compliance with HSSE & ISO standards as specified by the HSSE & ISO departments

21.   Participate on Programme and Institutional Committees as required.

22.   Demonstrate and encourage integrity and loyalty towards the NESC and its agents among staff and students

23.   Ensure adherence to relevant rules, regulations and procedures

24.   Perform any other duty as required.

Qualification and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences or a related area.

Postgraduate training and qualification in Education is a requirement (specialization in one of the following areas is considered desirable:  curriculum, measurement and evaluation, educational leadership)

A minimum of five years teaching experience at the postsecondary or tertiary level  is compulsory for this position

Experience teaching in a technical vocational environment is considered an asset

Leadership  and management experience in a postsecondary or tertiary institution is essential

Training and certification in educational technology

Experienced (2 yrs.)

·       Awareness of the NESC’s business/environment

·       Excellent at communicating, including being able to network effectively

·       Courteous, with pleasant disposition and effective interpersonal, team and communication skills

·       Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals, and ability to use office software applications (Microsoft Suite)

Work Environment:

·       Sit for extended periods of time

·       Stand, walk and bend over, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull and move, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds to waist height

·       Visit all Campus locations & external sites where programmes are provided.

·       May involve exposure to potentially hazardous materials and equipment
