Drilling Trades Lecturer – Part Time

Job Summary:

The incumbent is responsible for developing student competencies through a combination of classroom instruction, practical hands-on training and mentorship

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Deliver daily lesson plans and all course materials, including lecture notes, projects, assignments handouts, mid-term and final examinations, ensuring that all information is sufficient for successful completion of the course

2.     Ensure that required class preparation is completed in a timely manner

3.     Utilize effective and professional teaching and demonstrating techniques in instructing students to achieve established objectives

4.     Coach/guide/assist students in achieving program/career goals and objectives

5.     Maintain currency with industry trends and needs, and continuously update courses and teaching information with current practices and/or changes in the industry

  1. Communicate with relevant staff in all aspects relating to health and safety. Ensure that risk assessments are carried out, are appropriate, suitable and sufficient for the purposes of all aspects if the activity

7.     Evaluate student performance, maintaining appropriate records, and referring students with potential challenges for appropriate support

8.     Accurately and punctually submit all student-related data (attendance, assignments, projects, midterm and final examination) for processing

9.     Ensure adherence to relevant rules, regulations and procedures

10.  Adhere to approved health, safety and security procedures

11.  Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching, research and performance issues

12.  Perform related duties as required

Qualification and Experience:

1.     Technician’s qualification from a recognized institution

2.     An Assessor’s Certification will be an asset

3.     Five years’ experience in drilling operations onshore or offshore

4.     Three years’ experience in teaching, training and assessing


·       Sound teaching / pedagogical techniques

·       Excellent oral communication skills

·       Knowledge of major policies and procedures governing assigned programs

·       Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

·       Ability to follow oral and written instructions

·       Caring but firm approach, with strong interest in students’ wellbeing and success

·       Ability to motivate, mentor and counsel

·       Approachable, with strong customer service orientation

Job Requirements:

·       Knowledge of the oil and gas value chain

·       Awareness of the NESC’s business/environment

·       Strong knowledge about the NESC and programs offered

·       Excellent at communicating, including being able to network effectively

·       Courteous, with pleasant disposition and effective interpersonal, team and communication skills

·       Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals, and ability to use office software applications (Microsoft Suite)
