Lawn Care Technician

Position description:
The Lawn Care Technician must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of lawn care and its applications to include: safe handling of materials, proper mixing and transporting of materials, First Aid procedures in case of an accident or spillage, proper application of materials, properly diagnosing insect and disease issues, operating all equipment, ordering correct materials, and interfacing with customers, etc.
Requires minimal supervision and conducts all work in a safe manner. The Lawn Care Technician must also attend to and complete all paperwork and administrative requirements related to the job while maintaining a professional demeanor.

A. Has a minimum of three years’ experience in THREE or more of the following lawn care operations:

  • Operating String / Edge Trimmers (Wacker)
  • Operating Blade Edger (Wacker)
  • Pruning plants: Formal and selective
    • using Manual and Mechanical Trimmers
  • Operating Blowers both back pack and wheel
  • Calibrate, mix and administer Chemicals
    • Back pack and Boom sprayers
  • Aerating and Mulching
  • Diagnose Healthy and Unhealthy Lawn and Plants (an Asset)
  • Power Washing & Basic Painting skills
  • Trouble shooting and Preventative Maintenance of Small Engines (an Asset)
  • Operating ZTR (Zero Turn Lawn Tractors) under 35HP
  • Operating Ride on Tractors (more than 35 HP) and possessing     relevant license
  • Tree Pruning
  • Supervising

 B. Thoroughly understands all aspects of lawn care as outlined above and in  
           Company SOPs.
C. Able to operate company equipment: trucks, back pack sprayers/blowers, hose reels, motorized sprayers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers etc
D. Able to perform all daily preventative maintenance (PM) on company equipment.
E. Proficient in or able to learn customer relationship management (CRM) software (an asset).
F. Proficient in or able to learn customer relationship management (CRM) software handheld tracking system (an asset).
G. Meets or exceeds company production standards for Lawn Care work.
H. Ensures that jobs are kept on schedule and on budget.
I.  Ensures that all safety procedures are followed and reports any unsafe conditions to supervisors.
J.  Ensures all accidents are properly documented and reported immediately.
K. Looks for extras and up-sales, and converts them into work orders when appropriate.
L. Ensures all work orders are processed correctly
M. Interfaces with office staff to ensure on-hand inventory of job materials is adequate.
N. Ensures that company production standards are met.
O. Maintains a clean crew truck always.
P. Able to fill out and process all necessary job paperwork, purchase orders, and time sheets, etc.
Q. Able to interact with clients and potential clients in a professional, courteous, and competent manner.
R. Able to train a novice lawn care assistant and maintain a high level of morale.
S. Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs. 
T. Able to work with minimal supervision from Lawn Care Manager/Supervisor, but knows when to ask for assistance.
U. Is certified in CPR and First Aid.
V. PLEA 10 HOURS SAFETY AWARENESS Certified or capable of attaining
W. Continuing education requirement: minimum of 10 hours per year.

The Lawn Care Technician must possess the following skill set and educational background:
A. Minimum of a high school or Technical diploma or minimum of three years’ experience in Lawn Care operations
B. Possesses a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy. (an asset)
C. Have a clean criminal record and in possession of a Certificate of Good Character (within 6 months of application)
D. Legal documentation to verify employment eligibility
E. Physically able to handle the work load of a Lawn Care Technician.
F. Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
G. Able to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
H. PLEA:10 HOURS HSE AWARENESS certification or capable of attaining
I.  English in oral and written forms.
J. Able to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner daily.
K. Able to work flexible hours and early on mornings.

C. Encourages, assists and supports fellow staff members.
D. Requires minimal supervision.

K. Is not moody, belligerent, narcissistic, a loner, vindictive, mean-spirited, etc.
L. Is Safety Oriented.
