Job Title: Project Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for managing time, cost and quality in the execution of construction projects and ensuring contractor, employee and Company compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with the Managing Director, or designated representative, to define the project scope and create a detailed workplan that outlines the sequence of activities, resources, deadlines, schedules, costs/budgets and evaluation of deliverables
  • Plans and coordinates all aspects of the construction process, including hiring contractors, communicating the project scope, objectives and measures, and working with engineers, architects and vendors to ensure common understanding of the required deliverables and standards
  • Reviews and understands the project contract and clarifies any unclear terms with clients
  • Reviews and revises design team drawings
  • Develops and reviews tender documentation when needed
  • Ensures that the Company, its employees, sub-contractors and operating procedures adhere to relevant legislative, regulatory and industry requirements and best practices
  • Implements necessary preventative and corrective actions to address non-compliance with contractual requirements, policies and relevant legislation
  • Liaises with the Site Supervisor and/or General Foreman to monitor construction progress, including worker productivity and compliance with building and safety codes
  • Resolves problems that arise due to inclement weather, emergencies or other issues that may cause delays
  • Conducts routine site inspections to ensure adherence to project specifications, drawings, safety requirements and client requests
  • Conducts regular (weekly and monthly) meetings with staff, contractors and clients to ensure clear communication and understanding of expectations as well as provide project progress updates
  • Conducts daily and weekly Toolbox and Safety meetings with all staff and contractors on site
  • Manages suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with contract agreements and codes as well as statutory, regulatory and client requirements and specifications
  • Reviews and approves subcontractors' claims and invoices as well as employees' time cards and sign-in sheets
  • Manages project staff in accordance with Company policies and relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines
  • Manages project expenditures, ensures that they are maintained within the established budgets and takes necessary actions to reduce cost overruns
  • Conducts routine (weekly or monthly) evaluations of the project progress against the deliverables timeline(s) established during the project planning phase and takes corrective action to ensure deadlines are adhered to as much as possible
  • Develops and submits weekly or monthly progress reports to the Managing Director and to clients
  • Complies with Company policies and procedures and provides relevant information to key stakeholders to promote adherence of same
  • Performs any other duties as directed by the Managing Director and/or as required to ensure timely completion of assigned projects
  • Prepares the project site and liaises with architects, engineers, purchasers, estimators and surveyors prior to beginning of any construction work
  • Schedules different phases of assigned projects based on established deadlines  including material and equipment purchases and deliveries
  • Supports and cooperates with management in the implementation and maintenance of all aspects of the HSE Management System
  • Adheres to all HSE requirements, regulations, policies and guidelines

  • Knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering principles and practices
  • Knowledge of ASME, API and ANSI Codes
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of HSE regulations and practices
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Computer Literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and AutoCAD
  • Able to draft, read and interpret structural, MEP and Civil drawings
  • Able to manage and prioritize work deadlines effectively
  • Able to manage persons from diverse backgrounds including clearly communicating expectations, handling disciplinary issues and ensuring adherence to work requirements

Key Qualifications, Skills and Training

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical/Civil Engineering or Building Science from an accredited institution
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Project Management or PMP Certification
  • At least 12 (12) years' engineering experience
  • At least ten (10) years' construction experience
  • At least eight -ten (8-10) years' project management experience
  • At least six (6) years’ experience ensuring employee adherence to HSE guidelines and procedures 
  • At least ten (10) years' supervisory experience
  • Certification in Emergency Management and Emergency First Response would be an asset
  • Must be willing to work within the Caribbean and environs
  • Must be willing to travel to Galeota for jobs
  • Valid driver's permit
