Job description:


Responsible for maintaining and managing proper accounting processes, practices and procedures in keeping with company and regulatory requirements. The Accounting Assistant will process business transactions, handle accounts payable and receivable, expense reports, receipts, and other financial matters.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities


  1. Review, verify and approve daily Retail Customer transactions ensuring all relevant documents adheres to company and regulatory requirements
  2. Review and approve Commercial credit sales/limit for customers ensuring that these purchases are within the set limit
  3. Review, verify  and Update all daily financial transactions
  4. Issues invoices to pre-sellers and credit customers for collection of payments
  5. Prepares Accounts Receivable and Payables reports  
  6. Review customer queries and generate Credit Memos and Refunds and update records
  7. Liaise with Customers with outstanding balances to ensure collection
  8. Assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports
  9. Assists with the preparation and processing of statutory taxes ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
  10. Prepares monthly Operating Expense reports and analysis
  11. Bank Reconciliations
  12. Manages the daily Purchase Order Return function
  13. Reviews and liaises with staff at the Stores to ensure resolution of discrepancies
  14. Monitoring of all transactions to ensure that all Company expenditure is in keeping with budgets and in compliance with financial and accounting policies and procedures
  15. Assist in preparing and finalizing periodic financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, income statements, balance sheets, budgets, cash flows and equity statements 
  16. Maintain and update the general ledger accounting system and all related accounts with the Company’s monthly operating revenues and expenditure 
  17. Verify physical stock counts with the system report
  18. Performs other related duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Minimum qualification of ACCA Level II
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in Accounting/Financial Planning for a medium organization
  • Familiar with Peachtree Accounting software
  • Sound knowledge of international accounting standards
  • Working knowledge of accounting software packages and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet applications
  • Strong leadership and decision making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
