The incumbent will be responsible for providing the technical skills of a certified professional as well as the coordination and leadership necessary for managing the operations of departments and ensuring the Society’s accounting procedures and financial reporting is in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs’).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises and monitors the work of the Senior Accounts clerks, loans officers, member service reps and accounts clerks wherever necessary
Perform the necessary evaluations of all subordinates on an interim and annual basis
Ensure the reconciliations of all bank accounts and cash accounts are conducted.
Liaises with auditors and ensures audit preparedness by overseeing the preparation of all account reconciliations, audit schedules and completion of audit file.
Approves the preparation of journals and the processing of non member transactions as well as member journal transactions e.g. share to loan write off, and adjustments for delinquent member accounts
Approves all cheque payment vouchers
Processes Salaries including the submission of all statutory deductions on a timely basis
Prepares TD4’s and the Annual Summary and Supplementary for submission to B.I.R
Maintenance of the Asset Register
Maintenance of Fixed Deposit Register
Ensures the preparation all journals and schedules such as receivables and payables and ensures all other data is accurately entered to assist in the preparation of monthly accounts and financial reports
Assumes responsibility for accounting classifications of all expenditures and documents.
Maintains control of all deceased members and dormant accounts
Coordination of the IT function and all IT requirements of the Society
Ensures daily back-ups are performed on server or otherwise as required
Preparation of the Financial Statements on a monthly basis
Assist the General Manager with the preparation of the annual budgets.
Proposes the implementation of accounting and administrative policies and procedures to ensure that adequate internal controls are in place to protect the Society’s assets
Assist in establishing short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, and policies.
Performs the function of the Compliance Officer under the FIU Act and regulations.
Develops and maintains excellent working relationships and demonstrates mutual respect for all personnel of the Credit Union.
Brings to the attention of the General Manager, or in his/her absence, the Treasurer, any problems and or errors that affect its efficient operations.
Provides/co-ordinates Administrative support to the Board of Directors and other Committees as required.
Assists the General Manager in any other way as directed
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in a financial /credit union or accounting environment.
