Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent is required to design, coordinate, and implement initiatives that stimulate sustainable economic growth within the municipality. The role involves engaging with stakeholders – including businesses, community groups, government agencies, and investors to identify opportunities, attract investment, and support the development of small and medium enterprises. The LEDO conducts research on local economic conditions, prepares development strategies, and monitors projects to ensure alignment with national policies and community needs. A key function is fostering entrepreneurship, job creation, and skills development through targeted programs, partnerships, and resource mobilization. The LEDO also advises municipal leadership on policies to enhance competitiveness, improve livelihoods, and promote inclusive growth.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote LED initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector actors, and community-based organizations.
Facilitate the implementation of municipal LED strategies, ensuring alignment with national development policies and plans.
Identify, design, and manage projects that stimulate local economic growth, create employment, and strengthen local enterprises.
Mobilize resources through partnerships, grant applications, and other funding mechanisms to support LED programs.
Monitor and evaluate LED projects to ensure effectiveness, sustainability, and measurable impact on the community.
Collect and analyze local economic data to inform evidence-based decision-making.
Support capacity building for local entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and SMEs through training, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
Serve as a liaison between the municipal corporation, central government, and other stakeholders on LED matters.
Key Competencies
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Knowledge of economic development frameworks and local government operations.
Ability to build partnerships and engage diverse stakeholders.
Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
Familiarity with grant writing and funding proposal development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in Economics, Business, Development Studies, or related field.
At least 3-5 years’ experience in economic development, project management or community development.
