JOB TITLE: Deputy Chief Executive Officer
EMPLOYER: The National Agricultural Marketing and Development Corporation (NAMDEVCO)
Job Summary
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer supports the governance function by providing direction and leadership at the highest level of the organization towards the achievement of the Corporation’s Mission and strategic Vision through the implementation of its Objectives and Goals, as established by the NAMDEVCO Act, Chapter 63:05.
Key Responsibilities
* Support operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board Members of ongoing operational interventions and interfacing between Board and Staff.
* Assist in Maintaining the integrity of the Corporation’s Strategic Plan by developing and implementing the Corporation’s Operational Plan and Budget on an annual basis, taking into account changes in the environment that will guide alternative strategies to achieving strategic goals and objectives.
* Reviews the operations of the Corporation in a timely basis.
* Facilitate moral values by guiding staff members to develop good character, empathy and ethical decision making conducive to achieving the goals of the Corporation by developing and maintaining a culture that is fair, farmer friendly and results-oriented.
* Ensures that the staff recruited is competent and capable of carrying out the responsibilities for which they were hired, that where necessary the skills and competencies of staff are developed and in the cases of non-performing personnel, ensuring that good industrial relations practices are followed in the separation of such employees.
* Ensure that budgets are set within the framework of the Corporation’s Operational Plan and adhered to by liaising with each Departmental Head to obtain their annual projections, assessing achievements against target and providing guidance to Heads of Department where necessary to address any anomalies which may exist.
* Ensure that Corporation is on target with regard to implementation of its plans by designing control techniques and systems which would readily highlight deviations from plans and taking corrective action as necessary.
* Ensure Corporation goals are achieved by ensuring that the Corporation is structured in a manner to support the achievements of its goals by setting standards for and reviewing the performance of senior management personnel and where necessary, coaching said personnel toward improved performance.
* Build and maintain a positive and professional image for the Corporation by ensuring that the Corporation consistently demonstrates social responsibility and that stakeholders are kept abreast of the Corporation’s activities.
* Ensure that all inventions, patents or improvements which result from the Research and Development activities of NAMDEVCO staff, arising out of and in the course of their employment, be vested in NAMDEVCO, unless alternative arrangements are agreed to in writing by the Board.
* Ensures that management information is prepared and communicated in a manner which will assist the Board in its deliberations.
Qualifications and Experience
* An Advanced Degree (MSc, MBA) in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Marketing, Business Administration or Finance. .
* A combination of formal training and senior executive experience in a related agricultural field.
* Training/ Certification in Food Safety Regulations (HACCP/GAP).
* A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience at a Senior Executive Level.
