* ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The Emergency Medical Technician will report to the Head of Department (Accident & Emergency) at the Sangre Grande Hospital Campus and the Specialist Primary Care Physician II within the County.

2. Nature & Scope
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) delivers Basic Life Support (EMT-B) to ill or injured individuals under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Practitioner or General Practitioner Service. Responsibilities include responding to emergency calls, adhering to established standards of care and practitioner instructions, and facilitating inter-facility patient transfers during emergencies.

3. Specific Accountabilities
The Emergency Medical Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining emergency vehicles and equipment, responding to emergency calls, assessing patient conditions, and administering appropriate care while minimizing discomfort and preventing further injury. Key duties include stabilizing non-life-threatening situations, coordinating with emergency services like police and fire departments, communicating with receiving medical staff through verbal and written reports, and managing vehicle cleanliness, decontamination, and basic upkeep. Additionally, the role involves liaising with senior staff and transport coordinators, adhering to communication protocols, managing legal and safety gear requirements, and performing other related duties as directed by the authority.

4. Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Technical Mastery: Comprehensive knowledge and skills in Basic Life Support (BLS), along with a deep understanding of emergency vehicle inventory and maintenance procedures.
* Operational Readiness: Distinct ability to think clearly under immense pressure, make appropriate decisions rapidly, move medical equipment safely, and load/carry patient transport devices under all physical conditions.
* Communication & Collaboration: Effective oral and written communication skills to deliver precise reports, coupled with the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.

* Resilience: Proactive ability to handle stressful field conditions and cope effectively with job-related legal issues as they arise.

5. Minimum Training and Experience
* Possession of certification as an EMT-Basic from a recognized institution.
* At least two (2) years’ active working experience in a similar field.
* Possession of a valid Class 3 and Class 4 driver’s license.
* Must be over the age of 25.
* Certified as a Defensive Driver.
