JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent will be responsible for the overall leadership and supervision of the credit risk management function of the Group to include loan origination, the approval process and credit control. He/She will also be responsible for the adjudication and monitoring of credit as well as management of the delinquent loan portfolio with the objective of shaping credit culture and achieving a best in industry portfolio quality and risk management processes.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates and develops policy and strategy for the management of Group credit risks, maintaining effective supporting tools and techniques to be used across the First Citizens Group and various jurisdictions
Develops and manages the Credit Risk Management Framework for the First Citizens Group and business level risk limits and monitors against these limits
Directs and controls FC Group’s credit risks associated with all aspects of the Balance Sheet
Directs and manages the Group’s credit risk policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and standards
Adjudicates on credit proposals from the Group in accordance with FC’s Group credit policies and makes recommendations to Executive Risk Managers as well as the Board Credit Committee
Monitors the credit portfolio to track credit portfolio quality and adherence to risk limits, to identify emerging weaknesses and to recommend /implement, as appropriate, corrective measures and to develop and submit appropriate reports
Ensures internal and external audit reviews on credit risk management and credit administration achieve acceptable ratings
Oversees functioning of an effective workout / Collection Unit
Provides effective management, leadership and supervision of the Credit Risk and Administration Unit and assist with the development of subordinates
Serves as member of FC Group’s Senior Management Team
Provides guidance to lending units as well as other units in the bank with resolving credit management issues
Reviews the department’s structure and organization and make recommendations for changes as appropriate
Oversees the functioning of an efficient and professional budgeting and variance reporting system
Manages and maintains good relationships with all stakeholders
Interacts with third party external to the Company in the performance of the position’s function as required
Completes special projects and other related activities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates must possess a Post Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline from a reputable University or other professional qualification from a recognized professional body e.g. CFA, CIMA, ACCA and a minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in banking operations, at least seven (7) of which must be at Senior Managerial Level OR
A First Degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of twelve (12) years relevant experience in banking at a Senior Management Level with a successful track record of performance
Knowledge in risk management, credit analysis and verification, strategic planning and delivery, financial risk modelling and change management
Strong critical thinking, persuasion and influence as well as conflict resolution skills
Proven Leadership and Managerial skills
Working knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements both locally and regionally
Strong communication and presentation skills
Knowledge of the Group’s Operating Software Systems, Products and services
