Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Director, Graduate Studies and Research at The University of the West Indies. The position may be located at any of the University’s campuses: Cave Hill, Mona, St. Augustine, or a Global Campus site.
The Director, Graduate Studies and Research (GSR) serves as the senior academic and administrative leader responsible for advancing graduate education, research development, innovation, entrepreneurship and postgraduate training at the Campus level. Reporting directly to the Campus Principal and maintaining a functional relationship with the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Graduate Studies and Research, the Director provides strategic leadership to strengthen graduate programmes, research excellence, postgraduate student success, quality assurance, and research impact across the Campus and the wider University system.
The successful candidate will act as the Campus representative on the Board for Graduate Studies and Research and will provide leadership in the development, review and enhancement of graduate programmes and research initiatives. The Director will be responsible for coordinating graduate studies and research activities, promoting best practices in graduate supervision, strengthening industry partnerships, supporting research innovation and commercialisation, overseeing postgraduate funding initiatives and ensuring that graduate programmes and research activities meet international standards of quality and excellence.
The Director will work collaboratively with Campus leadership, Faculty representatives, Director of Academic Programming and Delivery Division (APAD) responsible for Graduate Studies, Directors of Graduate Studies and Research across the University system, and external stakeholders to advance The UWI’s strategic priorities in graduate education and research. The position requires a visionary academic leader capable of fostering innovation, attracting research partnerships, supporting postgraduate student development and enhancing the University’s regional and international reputation.
Candidates should possess:
A terminal degree from a globally recognised institution and normally hold the rank of Full Professor for at least 3 years.
At least five (5) years of leadership and administrative experience.
A distinguished record of scholarship and research, demonstrated through sustained peer-reviewed publications, success in securing research funding, and international recognition in the field.
A proven record of excellence in graduate supervision, including successful supervision of doctoral and master’s students.
