Job Description
The Compliance Officers will work with the Compliance Manager and across the plant and head office, to help build a credible, practical and measurable compliance programme with visibility to Executive Management and the Board Audit Committee.
Help build the compliance function that protects one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most important power producers.
Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU), a state-owned independent power producer and key contributor to the national electricity supply, is recruiting two Compliance Officers. These are hands-on roles for professionals who take ownership, follow matters through and act before compliance gaps become business risks.
Working with the Compliance Manager and across the plant and head office, the successful candidates will help build a credible, practical and measurable compliance programme with visibility to Executive Management and the Board Audit Committee.
Two complementary opportunities:
Compliance Officer 1 Investigations and Whistleblower Support: manage intake and triage, develop case plans, support or lead investigations, safeguard confidentiality and procedural fairness, and prepare evidence-based recommendations and committee-ready reports.
Compliance Officer 2 Regulatory Policy and Compliance Monitoring: build and maintain the compliance obligations register, coordinate policy governance, conduct monitoring and testing, track remediation, and develop dashboards, training and awareness initiatives.
Both officers will share a common compliance foundation, cover core duties for each other when required and may apply for either or both areas of emphasis.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelors degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance or a related field.
At least three years experience in compliance, risk management, audit or a regulatory role.
Demonstrated integrity, impartiality, confidentiality, documentation discipline and the courage to challenge and escalate appropriately.
Compliance Officer 1: Hands-on investigations experience is essential; a legal background or formal investigations training is strongly preferred.
Compliance Officer 2: Experience managing compliance obligations, policy governance, monitoring or regulatory change is essential.
Experience in a regulated sector is preferred; energy, utilities or heavy-industry experience and relevant compliance, risk, AML or fraud certification are assets.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Own assigned compliance processes and keep statutory, regulatory, contractual and policy obligations current, documented and auditable.
Track high-priority compliance and audit matters to closure, escalating unresolved concerns through the proper channels.
Produce clear, concise reporting for the Compliance Manager, Executive Management and the Board Audit Committee.
Key Competencies
Work proactively with plant and corporate teams to identify risks, provide practical guidance and resolve corrective actions.
