CONTRACTUAL POSITION

JOB TITLE: HEALTH AND SAFETY TECHNICIAN

JOB SUMMARY:
The Land Settlement Agency is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for its employees. Further its responsibilities include but are not limited to land use planning and engineering designs for squatter and Greenfield sites. A Health and Safety Technician will be responsible for the implementing and monitoring of all Health and Safety programs at the LSA sites and locations. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing advice to management based on updated OSHA guidelines to ensure Agency wide compliance.

REPORTS TO: Reports directly to the Manager Infrastructure Development Unit
SUPERVISION GIVEN TO: –

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Carries out Risk Assessments, identifies hazards and takes a lead role in producing Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
▪ Works in partnership with the Agency’s Project Management Team to implement, maintain and enhance strong Health and Safety systems and practices
▪ Ensures that all stipulated OSHA standards are adhered to before, during and after all jobs.
▪ Trains Agency employees or other interested parties in Health and Safety issues as it relates to construction of residential homes
▪ Conducts site visits and ensures all working practices are being carried out in a safe manner
▪ Investigates and records incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health
▪ Collaborates with the designated persons in all Agency Units as it relates to management of pandemic staff matters

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
▪ Knowledge of local laws and regulations governing safety procedures and policies.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
▪ Five (5) CXC passes including Mathematics and English
▪ Certificate in Health, Safety and the Environment
▪ National Certificate in NEBOSH
▪ At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position or in the housing and construction sector
▪ Any equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered.
