The St. Augustine Campus is a seeking suitable candidate to fill the post of Director of the St. Augustine Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (StACIE). The Director is expected to be a dynamic and innovative individual, able to work with the Campus community in identifying R&D opportunities for IP creation and commercialisation, and effectively familiar with international donor agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognised university, which should be in Business Administration, Law, Science, Engineering with an emphasis on Technology Creation and/or Management or a closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
At least five (5) years’ experience in management or administration of complex projects across different disciplines
A substantial record of relevant research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
Extensive experience and success in the leadership of research administration and management across multiple disciplines
Proven expertise in knowledge transfer, project monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management
A strong record of strategy and policy development to engage major regional/international donors in Public/Private-University partnerships for knowledge creation and transfer
Candidates with experience in commercialisation of intellectual property would have an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Providing overall leadership and management of the StACIE
Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Developing and managing the effective use of systems for commercialisation of Campus Intellectual Property (IP); goal setting; and growth and development of the St. Augustine Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem
Collaborating with the UWIVL, the Entrepreneurship Unit and Faculties to facilitate the ongoing creation, identification, and commercialisation of UWI IP
Supporting and promoting regulatory compliance and accountability
Collaborating with the Director, Graduate Studies & Research and Faculty Deans to improve the capacity for research development and knowledge transfer across all academic units, through information dissemination, education, training, and identification of funding provisions and opportunities
Serving on the Board of Directors of UWI Ventures Limited (UWIVL), a UWI subsidiary that is a holding company for all UWI spin-offs and startups
Overseeing the creation and management of specialist teams to design and execute special projects and consultancies
Working with other relevant Offices at The UWI to develop new, and reinforce existing strategic partnerships, and relationships with local, regional and international private and public sectors to:
o identify and implement sponsored projects that respond to their needs; and
o develop synergies between business and the research strengths of The UWI

Be able to work effectively with academic and senior administrative staff on major projects across the University
Be able to build successful relationships with senior leaders in the national, regional and international public and private sectors
Be skilled in providing effective and authentic representation of The UWI and StACIE
Possess strong communication and presentation skills
Display sound leadership and team-building skills, and cultivate a positive work culture at StACIE
