Applications are invited for the post of Nurse (Grade 9), in the Health Services Unit.
Duties of the post include:
1. Conducting initial interviews of students to determine whether they should be referred to the Doctor.
2. Offering consultation for all students and other members of the University community in health and social problems.
3. Administering treatment to students as the need arises:
(a) Medical Clinic – Triaging and assessing all patients seeking health care:
· General advice and support
· Wound care and bandaging
· Blood pressure measurement
· Blood glucose measurement
· Blood cholesterol measurement
· Pregnancy tests
· Contraceptive advice
· Ear syringing
· Suture removal etc.
(b) Immunization Clinic – administering the recommended immunization schedule to the campus population.
(c) Family Planning – offering different forms of contraception to the student population, advice and information.
(d) Voluntary and Counselling Testing – performing confidential rapid HIV Testing for the campus population.
4. Assisting the Medical Officer with minor surgical procedures by preparing the necessary instrument, drugs and equipment as required.
5. Arranging appointments with specialist for students who have been referred by the Medical Officer.
6. Transporting patients to and from or between places as required.
7. Assisting in educational programmes for the students as required.
8. Conducting Health Promotion Clinics such as Wellness and HSU Signature Events.
9. Ordering medical supplies for the Health Centre.
10. Collecting and compiling data to prepare reports for Medical Unit.
11. Supervising subordinate staff.
12. Maintaining proper filing system for Patients’ Records.
13. Participating in mandatory, job-related and developmental training, coaching and briefing sessions as required by the University, Department or Supervisor, and applying the knowledge and skills gained to support effective performance, compliance with policies and procedures, and improved service delivery.
14. Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Medical Officer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Applicants should possess knowledge of and familiarity with the University’s mission, regulations, structure, policies, and procedures. Applicants must have knowledge and experience in Health Education and Health Promotion and be highly knowledgeable about the instruments, drugs, and equipment used in primary health care. Applicants must possess strong skills and competence in the field of primary health care. Must be familiar and adhere to Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines.
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision. They must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and a wide range of stakeholders and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Applicants will also be required to handle sensitive and confidential information and documents and must demonstrate the ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
An approved Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; its equivalent or higher standard of education from a registered/accredited institution.
AND
A registered District Health Visitor Certification
AND
Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago and hold current registration status.
Certification as a Basic Life Support Instructor and Certification in Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) would be an asset.
EXPERIENCE
Essential:
At least five (5) years relevant work experience. Candidates must possess a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 9 of the salary scale at a rate of $10,155.00 per month.
