Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from a recognised university, with an MSc or MPhil with specialised training or experience in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery.
Candidates should also possess:
At least three (3) years’ teaching and clinical experience in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery
Prior experience working in a small animal referral hospital
A substantial record of relevant research and publications in reputable, peer reviewed journals
Evidence of prior success in supervising and mentoring of junior staff
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
PhD with specialised training or experience in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery
Board Certification in Small Animal Surgery (ACVS or ECVS)
Evidence of creative output (e.g. patents, grants)
Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate research supervision
Competence in developing curricula in veterinary medicine
The following would be considered assets:
Training/Certification in university teaching and learning
Evidence of research with extramural funding
Experience in Farm Animal Surgery and Equine Surgery
Competence in teaching in any other area of expertise
Candidates must be actively involved in teaching and Small Animal Surgical practice.
Only holders of a relevant PhD and/or Board Certification will be eligible for appointment at the Senior Lecturer level.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and contributing to the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in clinical Medicine and Surgery
Contributing to the development and delivery of pre-clinical courses
Participating in Problem Based Learning (PBL)
Conducting research and seeking extramural funding
Engaging in Veterinary School Committees and student support activities
Providing clinical service to referral cases
Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research students and mentoring of junior faculty (i.e. Demonstrators, Teaching and Research Assistants and Demonstrators)
Overseeing the welfare of:
o Clinical cases warded at the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM)
o The animals housed at the SVM
Supervising staff responsible for all in-house animals
Contributing significantly to curriculum development
Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department or designate
