Company Limited (EMBD) invites applications from suitably qualified individuals for the following positions:
SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER
Provides the full range of legal services to the Company, ensuring legal, statutory and regulatory obligations/requirements are complied with and the management and direction of all activities of the Legal Department.
Main Duties:
Ensures timely compliance with the Company’s policies and procedures, the highest levels of professional standards of corporate governance, and all legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements particularly under the Companies Act, Chapter 81:01 and the State Enterprises Performance Monitoring Manual or any such document governing State Enterprises in effect for the time being.
Provides legal advisory and interpretation services to Management on legal, statutory and regulatory obligations/requirements, on litigation matters, on conveyancing and land matters, and preparation of various legal opinions and advice on general issues that may arise from time to time on various aspects of the Company’s operations.
Drafts, reviews, and negotiates terms of legal documents and instruments as required including but not limited to Conveyancing Deeds, Contracts, Licenses, Tenders, and Requests for Proposals.
Engages and liaises with external Attorneys on all court matters involving the Company, attending court hearings and where necessary legally representing the Company in industrial and other civil legal proceedings.
Participates in the development, formulation, implementation, and monitoring of the Company’s strategic and operational objectives and plans.
Leads, directs, and manages a diverse team of professionals within the Legal Department in the proper execution of their duties and responsibilities in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Builds strong and effective teamwork within the department.
Qualifications: Minimum
Bachelors of Law (LLB).
Legal Education Certificate (LEC).
Valid Practising Certificate to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago.
Experience: Desired
Ten (10) years’ experience as a practicing Attorney-at-Law.
Five (5) years’ Senior Management Leadership/C-Suite experience directing a multidisciplinary team or other suitable Senior Management experience.
Experience in Public Sector/State Enterprise and a Post Graduate Degree will be considered an asset.

Technical Competencies: Desired
Knowledge of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago and legal principles and practices with emphasis on civil litigation, conveyancing, commercial laws and corporate secretarial and governance procedures particularly for State Enterprises.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Understanding of legal risk assessment and management, including identifying potential legal risks, providing legal advice, and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
Familiarity with legal proceedings.
Business savvy with financial acumen.
Sound knowledge of Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act 2015, as amended.
