LEAD MECHANICAL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN (SHIFT)
JOB SUMMARY
Oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems during assigned shifts in a healthcare facility.
KEY FUNCTIONS
• Leads a team of mechanical technicians during assigned shifts, ensuring that all mechanical systems are operating effectively and efficiently.
• Oversees the operation and routine maintenance of mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers, medical gas systems, plumbing, and other hospital mechanical infrastructure.
• Keeps accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections using the hospital’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Coordinates with other departments, contractors, and hospital staff to resolve mechanical issues that impact patient care or hospital operations.
• Makes recommendations for improving the energy efficiency of mechanical systems, helping the hospital reduce operational costs.
• Mentors and trains junior technicians, providing guidance and support in troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance tasks.
• Coordinates with clinical staff to minimize the impact of maintenance work on patient care and daily hospital activities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
• Five (5) CC/GCE or CSEC inclusive of Mathematics and English
• An Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, or related field
• Minimum of five (5)- seven (7) years of experience in mechanical systems maintenance, preferably in a healthcare environment.
• A Journeyman’s Certification or equivalent is preferred
• Familiarity with healthcare regulations and safety standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing and supervising a team of mechanical technicians.
• Srong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, medical gas systems, boilers, and other mechanical systems.
• Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of qualifications, training and experience.
