The CEO is accountable for the safe, reliable and financially sound operation of the company and for delivering the Board-approved strategy.
Trinidad Generation Unlimited (TGU), a state-owned independent power producer and a key contributor to Trinidad and Tobago’s electricity supply, is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation into its next strategic chapter.
Reporting to the Chairman and Board of Directors, the CEO is accountable for the safe, reliable and financially sound operation of the company and for delivering the Board-approved strategy. We are looking for a leader with a proven record of execution: someone who turns strategy into results, owns outcomes personally and holds the executive team to account.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelors degree in Engineering (strongly preferred) and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration or management.
At least 15 years experience in power generation or a comparable heavy process industry, including at least 10 years in executive management with full accountability for results.
Hands-on understanding of plant reliability, turbines, outages and capital projects, and a strong record in HSE and crisis leadership.
Working financial literacy, including the ability to read and challenge financial statements and capital appraisals.
Experience in a state enterprise, regulated or unionised environment is an asset.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Lead the Executive Team in refreshing and delivering the strategic plan, with clear targets, scorecards and regular reporting to the Board.
Assure safe, reliable and efficient plant operations, championing a zero-harm culture and leading through operational challenges.
Direct financial, commercial and risk management, including the company’s bond and financing obligations.
Ensure strong governance and full compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of a state enterprise.
Key Competencies
Build a visible, engaged leadership presence, strengthen performance management and lead organisation redesign.
Build strong relationships with the Line Ministry, the customer, regulators, sector partners and financiers.
