Assistant Accountant

Salary Range: $13,000.00 – $14,000.00 TTD

Reports To: Accountant / General Manager

Position Overview :

The Assistant Accountant plays a key role in recording, interpreting, reporting on, and presenting all financial transactions for the Credit Union. This position assists with planning, organizing, and administering accounting and financial analysis services while supervising the technical work of supportive para-professional staff.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Statements: Prepare timely financial statements adhering to required accounting standards; generate periodic reports analyzing actual vs. budgeted performance and evaluate variances.
Internal Controls & Compliance: Ensure all financial internal controls and systems are sound, operational, and deliver accurate financial information; perform accounts controlling and compliance functions, including monthly subsidiary ledger reconciliations.
Financial Planning & Audits: Assist in preparing annual financial plans and budgets; coordinate external year-end audits for the Credit Union.
Financial Analysis: Analyze accounting records and prepare professional reports to guide management decision-making and action.
Staff Supervision & Approvals: Direct, review, and appraise performance for supportive staff; review and authorize specific accounting transactions to ensure conformity with standard practices.
Special Projects: Undertake special assignments and projects as directed by the Accountant.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

Level III – ACCA.

Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years of relevant accounting experience.
Payroll: Proven experience in preparing monthly staff payroll is required.
Technical Skills: Experience in a computerized accounting environment; familiarity with accounting software packages (including Emortelle and Micropay) is an asset.
