DIAGNOSTIC PHYSICIST
JOB SUMMARY
The incumbent would be required to facilitate safe and accurate delivery of all diagnostic imaging prescribed in patient care.
KEY FUNCTIONS
• Manages the Centre’s Radiology Physics Quality Assurance Physicist Programme to ensure that it meets international standards.
• Responsible for acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and safety surveys of all imaging equipment for diagnostic purposes within the NWRHA.
• Reviews and approves all shielding calculations for all room and bunker designs for diagnostic radiology equipment.
• Reviews and revises existing policies and procedures related to the Clinical Physics Programme.
• Manages/performs weekly, monthly and annual quality assurance procedures for all diagnostic radiology equipment under the purview of WRA as per international guidelines.
• Supervises Junior Diagnostic Physicists, Radiographers, and all other allied health care personnel.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
• Internationally accredited Master of Science or Doctoral degree in Medical Physics or equivalent.
• Clinical Imaging Physics training/experience at an accredited facility or ideally completion of an accredited clinical medical physics residency program under the supervision of a medical physicist with professional certification in Diagnostic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics or equivalent.
• Internationally recognized Certification in Diagnostic Radiologic Physics by a professional body such as: The American Board of Radiology, The American Board of Medical Physics, The Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine, The International Medical Physics Certification Board
• Demonstrates continuous professional development via maintenance of certification as required by the professional certifying body.
• Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with dosimetry equipment installed at the Centre.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience with diagnostic radiology equipment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of all relevant AAPM Task Group Guidance Reports for equipment calibration and quality assurance.
• Experience as a clinical physics leader.
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of qualifications, training and experience.
