National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (National Energy) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC), with a mandate to conceptualize, promote, develop and facilitate new energy-based industries including downstream industries in Trinidad and Tobago.
National Energy is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified, self-driven professional to fill the following vacancy:

ELECTRO TECHNICAL OFFICER
This position reports to the Technical Superintendent and provides Electro Technical Specialist support for maintenance planning, execution and operation of National Energy’s vessels by ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the ship’s electrical, electronic and control systems, plant and equipment to optimize the use of the fleet in an efficient, cost-effective and safe manner.
Key Functions:
Collaborates with the Technical Superintendents on individual tasks and targets to be achieved within the designated time frames and/or cost/quality parameters.
Advises on electrical and electronic spares to be held onboard vessels as well as maintains the shore-based inventory.
Provides training to the vessel’s crew on basic electrical system operations and emergency procedures.
Undertakes assessments with the vessel’s crew to ensure that vessels’ electrical and electronic systems function in compliance with Class and Statutory requirements (SOLAS).
Diagnoses faults and potential problems on electrical and electronic equipment and conducts repairs where necessary beyond the capability of the crew.
Provides technical oversight, guidance and specialist support for the execution of routine, preventative and emergency maintenance activities undertaken by vessel engineering personnel.
Monitors and reports on the condition and operation of the automatic control systems of propulsion and auxiliary machinery.
Oversees the condition-based maintenance of all assigned switchboards including main switchboard and emergency switchboard.
Oversees maintenance of fire detectors and fire alarm system.
Conducts tests and maintenance on all assigned the vessels’ alarm system and machinery protection trips.
Oversees the functionality of the ships’ bridge equipment including navigational lights;
Ensures the electrical connections for the air conditioning unit of the vessels are checked by the Engineer.
Conducts monthly diagnostic electrical tests on the main engines on the Company’s fleet of vessels.
Reviews and validates monthly diagnostic test results performed by vessel engineering personnel and provides recommendations for corrective action.
Provides specialist technical support and guidance for electrical preventative maintenance activities performed by vessel Engineers.
Prepares monthly reports on the condition of the vessels’ electrical and electronic systems.
Provides electro technical specialist support to the ships’ Engineers and Technical Superintendents.
Assists the Technical Superintendent in establishing the specifications for dry docking activities.
The minimum requirements for the position are:
An Electro-Technical Officer Certificate of Competence or a Foundation Degree in Electrical Engineering or an Electro Technical Rating with extensive experience working on board ships.
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an Electro Technical Officer on vessels over 3000 KW or working as an Electrical Engineer in a plant type environment.
OR
A combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent level of knowledge of ship operations and electrical maintenance.
Knowledge in diagnosing and repairing electrical faults in marine CAT engines will be an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:
Sound knowledge of ship machinery and systems
Sound knowledge of ship operations
Knowledge of rules, regulations and codes governing ship machinery and equipment
Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology
Knowledge of circuit boards, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software
Ability to administrate a planned maintenance system
Ability to work with a computerized maintenance management system
Excellent Time Management skills
Good interpersonal skills
