Hostess
Job Summary
The Hostess is responsible for creating a welcoming and professional first impression for all
guests. This position greets and seats guests, manages reservations and the flow of the dining
room, and provides courteous and efficient service throughout the guest's arrival and departure.
The Hostess works closely with the Front of House / Floor Manager and service team to ensure a
smooth and enjoyable guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
Greet and welcome guests promptly and courteously upon arrival.
Manage reservations, walk-ins, seating arrangements, and guest waitlists efficiently.
Escort guests to their tables and provide menus or other relevant information as required.
Monitor table availability and coordinate seating with the Front of House / Floor
Manager and service staff.
Maintain accurate reservation and guest information in the reservation or restaurant
management system.
Answer telephone calls, respond to general enquiries, and assist guests with reservations
and other requests.
Provide guests with information about the restaurant, menu, promotions, special events,
and facilities when required.
Monitor the entrance, waiting area, and reception area to ensure they remain clean,
organized, and presentable.
Communicate guest preferences, special occasions, and specific requirements to the
appropriate service staff.
Assist in managing guest flow during busy periods to minimize waiting times and
maintain an organized dining room.
Handle guest concerns professionally and refer complaints or issues to the Front of House
/ Floor Manager when necessary.
Assist with opening and closing procedures and ensure the hostess station and related
areas are properly maintained.
Ensure compliance with company policies, service standards, health and safety
requirements, and other applicable regulations.
Assist with special events, private functions, and other restaurant activities as required.
Work closely with the Front of House / Floor Manager, servers, bartenders, and other
team members to ensure a seamless guest experience.
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
Certificate or Diploma in Hospitality, Tourism, Customer Service, or a related field is
preferred.
Previous experience in a hostess, customer service, or hospitality role is preferred.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
Friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
Basic knowledge of reservation and POS systems is an advantage.
Professional appearance, grooming, and positive attitude.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Front of House / Floor Manager.
