Job Description
This Officer is a qualified Registered Nurse who is responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients of the Police Health Facility, and the wider TTPS Organization.
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to serving police officers and fire officers, retired officers, recruits, and other approved beneficiaries of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
The incumbent promotes health, prevents disease, manages acute and chronic illnesses, responds to occupational injuries, supports emergency medical care, and assists in maintaining the operational medical readiness of members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
The Registered Nurse works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team while ensuring that all professional nursing services comply with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago Standards, TTPS policies, Ministry of Health guidelines, applicable legislation, and international best practices.
Key and Critical Responsibilities
Can carry out the responsibilities with the necessary skill set for Clinical Nursing Care, Patient Assessment; Medication Management; Clinical Procedures; Occupational Health responsibilities; Emergency Response; Preventative Health and Wellness; Patient Education; Documentation; Infection Prevention and Control; Quality and Patient Safety;
Perform comprehensive nursing assessments.
Assessment of Vital Signs such as temperature, respiration rate, blood pressure, pulse, blood glucose level, oxygen saturation.
Implement treatment plans as prescribed by the Medical Doctor.
Administration of medications (oral, intramuscular, intravenous and sublingual)
Monitor patients, including, vital signs, administering IV fluids and blood transfusions.
Performing various patient care procedures.
Wound care and dressings
Administer Vaccinations
Performs occupational and recreational therapies on patients.
Ensures registers, medication logs, and nurses log are up to date according to nursing training, hospital rules and regulations.
Prepares patients reports when needed.
Assist physicians during treatments, examinations, and procedures as required.
Assist in all areas to ensure smooth operations of the clinic and facility.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of general nursing practices.
Demonstrates knowledge of core nursing documentations (Clinical Documentation and Electronic Medical Record)
Knowledge of Occupational Health Nursing, Emergency Nursing, Chronic Disease Management and Mental Health
Knowledge of general or psychiatric nursing theory and practice
Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control
Knowledge of Health Promotion
Knowledge of Ministry of Health Clinical Guidelines
Knowledge of Nursing Council Standards
Some knowledge of hospital rules and regulations

Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude toward and effective relationships with the mentally and physically ill.
Ability to promote Health Education
Ability to plan and implement in Health Education and Promotion activities.
Ability to carry-out leadership and administrative responsibilities.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Applicants must possess:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Current registration and licensure with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
At least five (5) years of post-registration clinical nursing experience in the public and/or private health sector, with experience in emergency, occupational health, primary care, or medical-surgical nursing considered an asset.
Additional desirable Qualifications:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Occupational Health Nursing Certification, Emergency Nursing Certification, Mental Health Nursing experience, Diabetes Educator Training, Immunization Certification, Training in Health Promotion, Experience using Electronic Medical Record systems
