HEAD NURSE(GENERAL HOSPITAL PORT OF SPAIN)
JOB SUMMARY
The Head Nurse is required to provide administrative and clinical oversight for the nursing operations of a unit/department. He/She is responsible for the performance of their teams by assessing patients needs and the care being provided, implementing policies and guidelines, monitoring, mentoring and acting as a resource personnel; to ensure the maintenance of the highest standards.
KEY FUNCTIONS
• To utilize clinical knowledge and skills to assess the needs of patients; providing appropriate guidance, care and intervention and efficiently delegate task on the assigned ward (or hospital during the evening and night shift).
• Manages and coordinates nursing care of patients/clients in accordance with established and approved procedures and guidelines to ensure the timeliness, accuracy and reliability of nursing processes and plans.
• Visible presence in clinical areas and on Ward Rounds to demonstrate exemplary standards including the use of evidence-based practice.
• To establish and maintain therapeutic, supportive relationships and a cohesive work environment; motivating staff to provide quality nursing care.
• To collaborate with Nursing Supervisor to find constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues and adherence to policies and procedures.
• To maintain a thorough log of training attended by all staff within the ward and recommend additional training based on the identified need.
• To ensure the annual performance appraisal of staff is completed in a fair and timely manner with the necessary intervention for improvement recommended and undertaken.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
• Certificate or Diploma in General Nursing.
• Post Basic Nursing qualification would be an asset.
• Formal training in Supervisory Management.
• At least five (5) years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
• Registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
Consideration maybe given to an equivalent combination of qualifications, training and experience.
